Clayton Walker

Lead Pastor, President of the Board

Clayton serves as our Lead Pastor and President of the Board. Clayton and his wife, Darby, started The City Church with the Gwinns, Tatums, Colleys and MANY others the summer of 2018. Clayton formerly served as the pastor for Raider Church, the college ministry that The City was launched out of that saw over 1,000 students meet for worship. Clayton also previously served as an Executive Pastor and a Teaching Pastor at Experience Life Church in Lubbock. Before that he served as the Youth Pastor and then College Pastor at Indiana Ave. Baptist Church in Lubbock. Clayton received his bachelors in Christian Ministry from Wayland Baptist University and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological seminary. He and his wife Darby are celebrating 20yrs of marriage in July of 2023 and have 3 kids: Levi, Cobin & Nixon.

Mark Tatum

Executive Pastor, Vice President of the Board

Mark is one of our Executive Pastors, a board member and worship leader at The City. The Tatums helped launch The City the summer of 2018. Mark also helped to launch Raider Church in January of 2014, a college ministry that has seen over 1,000 students meet for worship! He’s been serving in full time ministry for over 10 years now as a pastor and worship leader for Experience Life and now Raider Church and The City. He and his wife Laura have 2 kids: Jay and Malea.

Brandon Gwinn

Executive Pastor, Secretary of the Board

Brandon is one of our Executive Pastors, a board member, worship leader and speaker at The City Church. He has been in full-time ministry for 20 years in Lubbock and in San Antonio as a Worship leader. Not only did he help start The City Church the summer of 2018, but he also helped start Experience Life Church in 2007. He and his wife, Jennifer, have 3 children: Taylor, Ayden and Zander. He has a beard.

Berry Alvis

Executive Pastor

Berry is one of the Executive Pastors at The City Church and on our Board of Elders. He has a love for missions, prayer and equipping young leaders. Berry was previously the Missions Pastor at Beltway Park Church in Abilene and served for ten years as the Prayer and Missions pastor of Experience Life Church in Lubbock. He has had the privilege of pastoring at church plants, small churches and mega-churches throughout his 36 years in ministry and has gotten a broad spectrum of experience in the body of Christ. Berry has a BA degree from Texas Tech and a Master of Divinity from Fuller Seminary. He and Elizabeth have been married for 28 years and have two grown kids: Callie and Ethan.

Coby Colley

 

Coby helped start The City Church and serves as an Elder on Board. He has served in various ministry roles since 2000. His most recent ministry position was with Asian Partners International, a missions organization that supports and catalyzes church planting movements primarily in North India. He still serves on their board. He currently owns a screen printing business in Lubbock, TX. He and his wife Jennifer have 3 children: Camren, Crew & Chandler. He is known for his striking good looks and ping pong abilities!

Mitchell Anderson

 

The Andersons were a part of the core group that launched The City Church the summer of 2018 and serve as City Group leaders. Mitchell has served on our Finance Team since The City Church began. Mitchell and Ashley both graduated from Coronado High here in Lubbock. They have been married for 15 years and have two girls, Tatum and Bryce. Mitchell graduated with a degree in architecture from Texas Tech and decided to stay in Lubbock to work with his dad. He is the President of their company, ADC: The Design Build Group and Anderson Fine-homes. ADC is a full design build company that focuses on custom homes and private commercial work. They have been partners for over 12 years and in the past 2-3 years his dad has retired and he has taken over the family business.

Landon Willess

 

The Willess family joined The City Church in 2021 and serve as City Group leaders.  Landon and Jaclyn grew up in Lubbock and graduated from Monterey High School.  Landon went to Texas Tech and graduated with degrees in Finance and Economics.  He has served on the City Church finance team since 2022.  Landon and Jaclyn have been married since 2010 and have two daughters, Emma and June.  Landon works in the banking industry, is co-owner of a local car wash, and gives the best high fives.
