Scripture:
Jude 1
6 And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great day of judgment.

Commentary:
6 The Analogy of the Rebellious Angels. The heart of Jude’s next comparison is the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority but apparently rebelled against God’s authority and sought to be equal to him. God has kept these beings in eternal chains ever since. Some scholars think this refers to the original fall of angels from heaven. Others think Jude is referring to the sin of angels in Gen. 6:1–4 (see note on 1 Pet. 3:19). This view is strengthened by Jude’s citation of 1 Enoch 1.9 (Jude 14–15), which contains much discussion on the fall of these angels.

Questions:
- In verse 6, Jude reminds us of the fallen angels that chose not to stay within the limits of God's authority. They are now kept chained up in prisons of darkness awaiting judgement. These angels didn't get a second chance. The CREATOR of the angels is also the CONDEMNER of the angels. As believers, we have to get our minds wrapped around all aspects of God's nature. He is more loving and gracious than we can possibly imagine, and at the same time He is more just and holy than we can possibly imagine. How often do you think about God's anger toward sin and rebellion? Do you, like Jesus said to His disciples, fear the God that has the power to condemn your soul?
- The angels were not CONTENT with God's PROVISION or their POSITION. They wanted more. Assess your general attitude toward God and the way you respond to Him on a daily basis. Could it be said of you that you have, like Paul, learned to be content in every situation? Are you pleased to place yourself beneath his authority? Or are you constantly vying for control?
Prayer Topics:
- That you would fear God.
- That God would help you learn to be content with Him and His ways.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
