Scripture:
Romans 1
21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.
25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

Commentary:
1:21 The root sin is the failure to value God above all things, so that he is not honored and praised as he should be. Human beings are foolish, not in the sense that they are intellectually deficient but in their rejection of God’s lordship over their lives. They knew God not in a saving sense, but they knew of his existence and his attributes.
1:22 Even brilliant people who do not honor God miss the whole purpose of life and are therefore fools (cf. Prov. 1:7, 22; 10:1; 12:15; 14:7; 17:25; 20:3).
1:25 exchanged the truth about God for a lie. Paul implies that all other religions are based on false ideas about the one true God; they are not just “different paths to one God,” as some claim.

Questions:
- God inspired the writing of Scripture, determined the canon of Scripture, and protected the copying of Scripture. So what are we to do in response? We build our lives on Scripture! The AUTHOR should be our AUTHORITY. We are to OBEY what we read in the Bible, to build our lives on the ROCK of Scripture. You aren't a good authority for your life. Neither is culture. Why? Because our minds and attitudes are constantly shifting. Because we can be selfish and self-serving. Because culture thinks what is up is down and down is up. Scripture is the ONLY constant. It is unchanging and ALWAYS true and good and right. Is Scripture the authority of YOUR life? How do you know?
- What is God asking of you given all we've learned this week? What is he calling you to do?
Pray:
- That you confidence in Scripture would grow as you read.
- That you would build your life on the truth of Scripture.

7. How can I trust that the Bible is still God’s Word today? I trust the Bible is still God’s Word today because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He was God and said His words would never pass away. Through the Holy Spirit, God inspired the writing of the Scripture, determined the canon of Scripture and protected the copying of Scripture so that we might know Him and worship Him to this day.
