Hello This is a Test

Thursday Devo

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 13
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Commentary:

13:7 The terms believes and hopes are sandwiched between bears and endures and, like them, probably refer to relationships between people rather than to faith and hope in God. Love believes the best of others and hopes the best for them.

Questions:

**This week's Devos will be geared primarily toward married couples**

  • Brandon left us with this question to ponder: What if the purpose of marriage isn't just HAPPINESS, but HOLINESS? Marriage is a mirror; it's a tool God uses to show us our own sinfulness. In order to find our marriage fulfilling, we must first put God on the throne of our lives, only HE can fill the voids within us. We can't love anyone in our lives the right way unless we love God FIRST... then our spouse, then our kids, then everyone else. Do these priorities reflect your own? What do you need to let God do in your own heart that will lead you towards a better relationship with your spouse?

  • Brandon gave two different challenges. The first was to go to counseling. Every member of the City staff sees a counselor. We are big believers! For married couples, it's a non-negotiable. We have a list of vetted Christian counselors on our app under the "About" tab. The second challenge was to register for our Re/Engage marriage class. This class is for every married couple, whether your marriage is great or it's hanging on by a thread. We all could use a better marriage relationship. You can register under the "Signups" tab. What is God asking you to do in response to all we've talked about this week?

Pray:

  • That we would love God FIRST and MOST.
  • That we would do whatever is necessary to fight for a better marriage.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

6. Is the Bible God’s Word? Jesus proved He is God by rising from the dead and said the Old Testament was God’s Word and gave authority to the Apostles to write the words of the New Testament, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that all the words of the Bible are God’s Word.
(Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:27, 44; John 14:25-26, 15:27, 16:12-13, 17:20; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 3:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21)
