Scripture:
2 Timothy 1
12 That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.

Commentary:
1:12 Paul suffers (as I do) because of his current imprisonment and impending death. Guard … what has been entrusted to me (Gk. tēn parathēkēn mou, “my deposit”) means either that God will guard the gospel, which has been entrusted to Paul, or that God will guard Paul’s life (“what I have entrusted to him,” see ESV footnote). Either way, it is this confidence in God that prevents Paul from being ashamed. Cf. note on v. 14. His boldness arises not from self-confidence but from God-confidence (cf. 2 Cor. 3:5). until that Day. See 1 Cor. 3:13; 2 Tim. 1:18; 4:8; Heb. 10:25; and notes on Amos 5:18–20; 1 Thess. 5:2–3.
Questions:
- Sunday was all about God's PROVIDENCE. This is when God uses NATURAL circumstances to bring about His SUPERNATURAL purposes. As Christians, we don't believe in chance, luck or putting out good energy or vibes. That's all demonic. No, we place our hope in the providence of a loving God. If you are faithfully following Jesus, so much of your life and circumstances are due to the providence of God. What are some natural circumstances in your life that God has used to bring about His supernatural purposes? Spend some time thanking Him for these things!
- Clayton shared this quote on Sunday from Martyn Lloyd-Jones; "The Christian is a man who can be certain about the ultimate even when he is most uncertain about the immediate." Reflect on this quote and your own life and current circumstances. Is your faith matured to the point where this is true of you? What do you have to do to get to this level of trust in God?
Pray:
- That God would continue to reveal His providence in your life.
- That your level of trust in God's sovereignty would grow, day by day.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
2. Are there sources outside the Bible that confirm the Biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Many Roman and Jewish historians have confirmed that the apostles died as martyrs for preaching that they saw Jesus risen from the grave. No one dies for something they know to be a lie.
