Hello This is a Test

Thursday Devo

Scripture:

Acts 9:34-35
34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly. 35 Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord.

Commentary:

9:34 Jesus Christ heals you. See note on 3:6. Peter understands that Jesus is invisibly working to build his church. Make your bed probably refers to folding the mat on which he was lying.
9:35 they turned to the Lord. As is often the case in Acts, miracles such as this healing (cf. ch. 3) led to the advancement of the gospel. The news spread beyond the town of Lydda to the whole coastal plain of Sharon.

Questions:

  • As we've frequently discussed throughout the book of Acts, these miracles and signs and wonders are meant to point to something else... in this case, the miracles point to Jesus and the glory of God. The result of the healing is that the whole community came to faith in Jesus! The paralyzed man was a walking billboard for the Lord. Our lives can become the same thing! When people look at your life, does it scream the name of Jesus? If not, what needs to change?

  • In each of the healings in chapter 9, one miracle leads to another miracle. The purpose of the first was to bring about the second. The second miracle we are talking about is the miracle of salvation! The first takeaway on Sunday was that the greatest MIRACLE is a SOUL SAVED. That God would become flesh and walk the earth, that Jesus would lay down His life in the greatest act of love that the world has ever seen, that He who knew no sin would become sin for us, that we who are separated from an infinitely holy and righteous God by our sin can somehow receive a clean slate in this beautiful exchange, that even though we aren't perfect and can still struggle, we are now being perfected from the inside out and at the same time can be fully justified before God, holy and righteous and without a single fault… THIS is a true miracle! Take a few extra minutes today and thank God for the miracle of salvation. Repent for the times you take this gift for granted.

Prayer Topics:

  • That your life would scream the name of Jesus.
  • That you would be grateful for the miracle of salvation.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

7. How can I trust that the Bible is still God’s Word today? I trust the Bible is still God’s Word today because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He was God and said His words would never pass away. Through the Holy Spirit, God inspired the writing of the Scripture, determined the canon of Scripture and protected the copying of Scripture so that we might know Him and worship Him to this day.
(Matthew 24:35; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21; Revelation 22:18-19)
