Scripture:
1 Corinthians 2:9-12
9 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.”
10 But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. 11 No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.

Commentary:
2:11 comprehends. Understands fully.
2:12 the Spirit who is from God. Both the substance and the verbal expression of the apostles’ witness to Christ are from God.

Questions:
- The first takeaway on Sunday was to LEARN to LISTEN. We need to learn to hear the voice of God in our lives just like Philip did. The same Spirit that spoke to Philip is in you! And He's speaking to you! He most likely won't speak to you through a burning bush, He probably won't write in the sky, may not speak in an audible voice. When the Holy Spirit speaks, it's typically an inner voice, a thought, an impression, a sense about what He might be saying. Would you say that you are one that can tell when God speaks to you? Is this an area that you are growing in? If not, how do you start?
- This is a skill that we need to be actively pursuing. We need to grow it, like a muscle. But how do you know it's God's voice and not your own? Usually through confirmation on the BACK end, especially at first. Then, over time and through experience, we can become more discerning of His voice. When was the last time God spoke to you clearly, you were obedient, and God gave you overwhelming confirmation after the fact?
Prayer Topics:
- That you would learn to discern God's voice.
- That you would intentionally seek to grow in this area.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
