Hello This is a Test

Tuesday Devo

Scripture:

Acts 6:2-4
2 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. 3 And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. 4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”

Commentary:

6:4 Essential to the work of the apostles was their devotion to prayer and to the ministry of the word. The burgeoning ministry of charity was distracting them from this calling. The Greek-speaking Hellenists from whom the seven were selected were better equipped to serve and communicate with the widows.

Questions:

  • The first takeaway from Sunday was that organization is GOOD. Some people are against organized religion, which must mean they are a fan of UNorganized religion. The problem with that is, to be against organized religion is to be against God's heart and design. We see it throughout Acts and other New Testament writings... organization is needed to bring stability, clear direction and vision to a move of God. It also brings much needed oversight and accountability. Have you ever been anti-organized religion? What are the dangers of going it alone in your Christian walk?

  • This isn't to say that every church is perfect or that churches and church people don't end up hurting people. We've all been hurt by a church or a church person. No church is perfect because they are filled with imperfect people, which is a beautiful thing! Have you let past hurts keep you from fully plugging into a church family?

Prayer Topics:

  • That you would learn to love the local church.
  • That you would fully plug into a church family.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

2. Are there sources outside the Bible that confirm the Biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Many Roman and Jewish historians have confirmed that the apostles died as martyrs for preaching that they saw Jesus risen from the grave. No one dies for something they know to be a lie.
