Hello This is a Test

Scripture:

Luke 4:18-20
18 So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? 20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”

Commentary:

4:18–20 Though the leaders of the council charged them not to speak or teach … in the name of Jesus, Peter realized the impossibility of abiding by this prohibition, thus demonstrating that believers have the responsibility not to obey authorities when such authorities prohibit preaching the gospel or otherwise require Christians to disobey God’s explicit commandments (cf. 5:29).

Questions:

  • Boldness is obviously one of the best indications that you are filled with the Holy Spirit, and this little exchange between Peter, John and the Sadducees is the perfect example. In verse 19, Peter and John say, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” When was the last time you had this kind of conviction when talking to someone about your faith? How might your life be different if you did?

  • This is the best definition of a "witness," speaking the things you have seen and heard. What about you? Do you have a story to tell? Have you "seen" and "heard?" Reflect on and discuss this quote: If you find it difficult to speak to what the Lord has done in your life, maybe you haven't seen or heard much from him.

Prayer Topics:

  • That you would have a "can't stop, won't stop" conviction to share your faith.
  • That the Gospel would burn on the inside of you.
