Hello This is a Test

Tuesday Devo

Scripture:

Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

Commentary:

5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified. Chapter 5 begins with a ringing affirmation of the objective legal standing of the Christian—that the Christian, through faith in Christ, has been justified and declared righteous by God, once for all. The result of this is that the Christian no longer lives under the fear of judgment and the wrath of God but has peace with God, which is not merely a subjective feeling but an objective reality. See also note on John 14:27.
5:2 The grace in which we stand refers to the secure position of the believer’s standing (as a blessing of justification), and the hope of the glory of God refers to the promise that Christians will be glorified and perfected at the last day—a hope that results in joy.

Questions:

  • On Sunday, Amber shared our City 7 #4 that talks about how no one is good enough to go to heaven or be made right with God. She also shared her testimony about how she can still feel that she needs to somehow work hard enough to be worthy of Christ's sacrifice. Have you ever felt like you needed to work for your salvation? What are the dangers of this way of believing?

  • When it comes to being a believer, it's Jesus + nothing. We are made right with God by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Many of us fail to realize the freedom we live in. Because of what Jesus did, we can live a life free from the bondage of sin. Have you experienced this freedom? What does it mean to you that you have been made right with God only through the undeserved grace from the Father?

Prayer Topics:

  • That you would never think you would have to earn God's grace.
  • That you would live in the freedom that Jesus paid for.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
