Hello This is a Test

Friday Devo

Scripture:

Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Commentary:

5:14 light of the world. Jesus’ disciples have the kingdom life within them as a living testimony to those in the world who do not yet have the light.
5:15 The typical lamp in a Jewish home was fairly small and was placed on a stand to give maximum illumination.
5:16 The world will see the light of the kingdom through the good works done by Jesus’ disciples (and believers today), with the result that the Father who is in heaven will be glorified.

Questions:

  • As we've said through this series, when we are excited about something, or when something makes our lives better, we tell people about it. And since Jesus has literally saved our lives, how would we not tell people about it? We are Christ's ambassadors, and God makes his plea THROUGH US. His plan is to reach your friends, family, coworkers and neighbors through YOU! This is why every believer should have a names list. This is a physical list containing the names of everyone in our life that we love that needs Jesus or those that we might not be sure about. Brandon challenged us to write the names down and keep them where we can see them. Every time you look at that list it should remind you to pray for them and for opportunities to share with them. Also we should be looking to take at least one step with them each week, whatever that looks like in your situation. Take a minute and pray about this names list. Who should be on YOUR list? Who is God laying on your heart?

  • Now take a few minutes to make your list. Write the names down and begin to ask God to use you to reach every person on that list. If not you, then who?

Pray:

  • That God would lead you in every interaction with your names list people this week.
  • That he would give you boldness and opportunities with each one.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

3. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Since “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin is death,” Jesus had to die on the cross to pay the fine for my sin so I could be right with God.
(Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:21-23, 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:1-6; Colossians 1:13-14, 21-22)
