This Week's City 7:
3. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Since “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin is death,” Jesus had to die on the cross to pay the fine for my sin so I could be right with God.
(Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:21-23, 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:1-6; Colossians 1:13-14, 21-22)
(Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:21-23, 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:1-6; Colossians 1:13-14, 21-22)
Ice-Breaker:
Why do you think people love a good story? What are the elements of a story that make it compelling?
Discussion Questions:
Have someone read 2 Corinthians 5:20 aloud.
- This series has been all about equipping YOU to do the work of the ministry. We've taught you that we are called to be Christ's ambassadors, we showed you how to share the gospel using the Roman road, and we showed you how to develop YOUR story in order to share it with others. As we kick off city groups for this semester, this week is going to be all about putting all this into practice.
- Do you think you could share your Jesus story in a compelling and concise way? Let's all take time this week to write out our story.
- Take some time and think about who would be on your names list. These are people in your life that you're close to that either don't know Jesus or maybe you're just not sure where they stand. Make a list on paper or on your phone.
- After everyone makes their list, have each person share the names with everyone, then pray that God would give each of us opportunites this week to take a small step with them in an intentional way.
- Practical next steps:
- Text them and tell them you're praying for them.
- Ask them how you can be praying for them.
- Tell them that if they ever need you, you'll be there for them.
- Ask them to have lunch or coffee just to hear how their life is going.
- Ask them to come to church with you.
- Practical next steps:
**LEADER NOTE: Follow up with everyone next week to see how their lists are going and if there are any cool stories. Do you best to keep up with this each week even though the series is over!**
Prayer Topics:
- That you would live for story bigger than your own.
- That YOUR story would be HIS story.
- That God would give us opportunities and boldness to share with people on our names list.
