Hello This is a Test

Monday Devo

Scripture:

Matthew 4:18-20
18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.

Commentary:

4:18–19 two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew. These brothers had been followers of Jesus for about a year (cf. John 1:35–42) but apparently had returned for a time to their normal work. casting a net into the sea. A circular cast net, 20–25 feet (6.1–7.6 m) in diameter with lead sinkers attached to the outer edge, enveloped fish as it sank. Follow me. Jesus calls them to abandon their ordinary occupations (Matt. 4:20) and accompany him full-time.

Questions:

  • We ended the Luke series with this question: When was the last time you shared your faith? Many people feel comfortable inviting people to church, which is a great start, but few feel comfortable enough to actually share the gospel with someone on their own. You might even be thinking, "Isn't that the pastor's job?" And you would be wrong! Scripture teaches that it is a pastor's job to equip the body (that's you!) to do the work of the ministry. So every disciple of Jesus SHOULD be in full-time ministry, sharing their faith with everyone in their world that needs it. How confident are you when it comes to sharing your faith with someone? Do you feel you have the necessary skills? What do you lack?

  • The first point from Sunday was that all FOLLOWERS are FISHERS. Jesus told his disciples they would be fishers of men. He told us to go into all the world and teach them to obey. In Acts we see the apostles telling people about Jesus everywhere they went. It seems that this is expected of all believers... to spend their lives sharing Jesus with other people. Sharing the gospel is a matter of OBEDIENCE or DISOBEDIENCE. Is this convicting for you? Ask God to move in your heart and shift your thinking today when it comes to your attitude about witnessing to others. Pray and ask God for boldness!

Pray:

  • That God would give you boldness to share your faith.
  • That you would be determined during this series to learn the skills that you might be lacking at the moment.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

1. Who is Jesus? I believe Jesus is God because Jesus said He is God and proved it by rising from the dead and appearing to His disciples, His brother James, 500 others at one time and Paul.
(Mark 3:21; John 8:58, 10:30-33, 14:9-11; Acts 9:1-6; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:2-3; James 1:1)
