Commentary:
1:6b–11 Matthew may have drawn from 1 Chron. 3:10–14, since both genealogies omit several kings found in the narrative of Kings and Chronicles. Omitting names in a genealogy was common to make for ease of memorization. One is struck in this section by the alternately godly and wicked kings who ruled Israel.
Questions:
- This series has been all about LEGACY. Many people, when they think of legacy, think about leaving money or property or a will. But it's much more than that. Legacy is living a life that makes a DIFFERENCE and goes beyond your TIME. How much thought do you give to YOUR legacy? What do you hope that legacy will be?
- Mary Gormandy White defines legacy as, "When a person dies, the mark the individual left on the world represents that individual's legacy. While a person's legacy can involve money, the concept of legacy is much larger than the value of an individual's estate. It is about the richness of the individual's life, including what that person accomplished and the impact he or she had on people and places.” Who is someone in your life that comes to mind when you think of someone who has left a rich legacy? What do you need to do now in order to leave that same kind of legacy?
Pray:
- That you would start living now in a way that would result in a rich, godly legacy.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
