Scripture:
Luke 24:1-7
But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 3 So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.
5 The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”

Commentary:
24:1 on the first day of the week. All four Gospels state that the resurrection took place on Sunday.
24:3 The earthly Lord Jesus is no longer in the tomb. He is now the risen Lord (cf. Acts 2:34; Rom. 1:4).
24:4 two men. Angels (v. 23; cf. Matt. 28:2, 5). For the women, the empty tomb was at first perplexing; for Luke and his readers, it is a proof of Jesus’ resurrection and confirmation that Jesus’ claims to be the Son of God were in fact true (cf. Luke 22:70).
24:5 They were frightened (cf. v. 37; Acts 10:4) refers to fear that can lead to reverence (see Luke 1:12). The appearance of angels often produced such fear (cf. Judg. 13:19–20). For the living, cf. Luke 24:23; Acts 1:3; 3:15; Rom. 14:9.
24:6 Remember how he told you. Cf. 9:22, 44; 18:32–33.
24:7 Must emphasizes the necessity of God’s providential plan being fulfilled (see 9:22). third day. See 9:22.

Questions:
- We are concluding a two year journey through the book of Luke. Like we've said over and over, we believe teaching verse by verse will give us a deeper, more thorough understanding of Scripture and does an all around better job of making disciples. What has your experience been the past two years? Have you found this to be true in your own life?
- In Chapter 24, we find that it was women who first found the tomb empty. This is actually great evidence for the resurrection. In this culture, no one would've believed a woman's account of what happened. So if you were trying to make something up, you would never use a group of women to be your source. But when Jesus was crucified, it was the women who stuck with Him and stayed by His side while all the men ran and hid. Their faithfulness was rewarded and they are the first to see Him alive. Clayton mentioned on Sunday, we should all be thankful for faithful women of God who pray, teach, disciple, show up and are faithful when sometimes we are not. Who are some women of God in YOUR life that have pointed you towards Jesus with their faithfulness and love for God? Tell one of them thank you today if you're able!
Pray:
- That you would continue to hunger for God's Word.
- That you would remember show your gratitude for faithful women of God in your life.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
