Hello This is a Test

Scripture:

Luke 20:17-19
17 Jesus looked at them and said, “Then what does this Scripture mean?
‘The stone that the builders rejected
has now become the cornerstone.’
18 Everyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on.”
19 The teachers of religious law and the leading priests wanted to arrest Jesus immediately because they realized he was telling the story against them—they were the wicked farmers. But they were afraid of the people’s reaction.

Commentary:

20:17 The stone … rejected has become the cornerstone (quoted from Ps. 118:22). At the time of Jesus, Ps. 118:22–23 was already known as a messianic psalm (cf. Acts 4:11). The opponents of Jesus can thus understand what he means: the “stone” refers to the Messiah. Builders refers to the leaders of Israel. Rejected echoes the theme of the persecution of the prophets of God (Neh. 9:9–35; Acts 7:1–53). The new Israel (or faithful Israel) will accept the Son as the rightful messenger, heir, and cornerstone of the messianic kingdom (Jer. 31:26; Zech. 4:7). Both Mark 12:9 and 12:10 speak of reversal: in v. 9 God transfers responsibility for his people to “others,” and in v. 10 the rejected messianic “stone” is divinely vindicated and established as the cornerstone of a new building.
The rejected Son will become the Head of the church, the people of God. Psalm 118:22 is also quoted in Acts 4:11 and 1 Pet. 2:7.
20:18 Everyone who falls (cf. Isa. 8:14–15; 1 Pet. 2:8) means everyone who stumbles at and rejects Jesus as the Messiah. When it falls on anyone refers to Christ coming back in judgment.

Questions:

  • Clayton started his message on Sunday by talking about the large stones in front of the new building. Jesus said in Luke 20 that He was the stone that the builders rejected, but now He is the cornerstone. He is a stone that cannot be moved. And this cornerstone should be the foundation that our lives are built upon. What should this look like in our lives? How do we go about making Him our cornerstone?

  • Ultimately, every one of us has to know who has the authority in our lives. A tenant knows he's a renter and not an owner. We all must say, "The AUTHOR is my AUTHORITY!" This means we have to realize our hearts are deceitful and our minds are foolish, so we choose to trust God and His Word. We have to refuse to live for man's approval. We must love God most and first. Can you say your life is truly about His glory? Do you really believe that His glory is ultimately for your good? What needs to change?

Pray:

  • That you would make Jesus the cornerstone of your existence.
  • That the Author would become your Authority.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
