Hello This is a Test

Tuesday Devo

**Because of Father's Day, this week's content will be husband/father/parent focused**

Scripture:

Ephesians 6:4
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Commentary:

6:4 Fathers. As earlier, Paul begins his admonition with a negative action to avoid, followed by a positive action to develop. Paul addresses the responsibility of fathers in particular, though this does not diminish the contribution of mothers in these areas (see Proverbs 31). provoke … to anger. Obedient children are particularly vulnerable, so a domineering and thoughtless father’s actions would be discouraging to them (Col. 3:21). bring them up. Parents play a crucial, God-ordained role in the discipleship of their children “in the Lord” (Eph. 6:1); see Deut. 6:1–9. Parental discipleship in the discipline and instruction of the Lord should center on the kinds of practices already outlined in Ephesians 4–5.

Questions:

  • Ephesians 6:4 says that fathers shouldn't provoke their children to anger by the way they treat them. Instead they should bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. This means that godly discipline and instruction is more important than sports or education or anything else. Fathers, are you ever too harsh with your kids? Is this an area where growth is needed?

  • Parenting can be frustrating, as every parent knows. Harshness can come when we run out of patience. What every parent needs is a heavy dose of the fruits of the Spirit. We desperately need more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. If the Holy Spirit is growing us in these areas, we will be better parents that look more and more like Jesus. Where do you need His Spirit to grow you the most?

Pray:

  • That you wouldn't be a harsh parent.
  • That you would ask God daily to grow the fruits of the Spirit in you.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

2. Are there sources outside the Bible that confirm the Biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Many Roman and Jewish historians have confirmed that the apostles died as martyrs for preaching that they saw Jesus risen from the grave. No one dies for something they know to be a lie.
(Luke 1:1-4; Acts 26:26; 1 John 1:1-4, Josephus, Clement, Hegesippus, Tertullian, Origen, Polycarp)
