Hello This is a Test

Wednesday Devo

Scripture:

Luke 19:37-40
37 When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen.
38 “Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!”
39 But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, “Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!”
40 He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”

Commentary:

19:39–40 These verses illustrate v. 14. The Pharisees’ attempt to squelch the joy of the occasion is rebuked, for if the disciples stopped expressing their praise, the very stones would cry out. All creation was made to worship this King who is Lord of all.

Questions:

  • Once again,  the pharisees reveal their hearts by referring to Jesus as "teacher," which was an address used for Jesus by those outside the circle of His followers who refused to see Him as Lord. It reveals what they thought of Him and, quite frankly, what many today think of Him. Even so-called "believers" can treat Jesus as though He is merely a good teacher, prophet, a man with wisdom. He is only "Lord" when your whole life is submitted to His Lordship... every part of you. Is He Lord of YOUR whole life? Or do you unintentionally relegate Him to a teacher by your decisions, attitudes and things you withhold from Him?

  • How did Jesus respond to the pharisees? By dumping oil on the fire! He quoted scripture that basically claimed He was, in fact, God. Without fear He spoke the truth to them without mincing words or shying away. Sometimes we can be hesitant to stand our ground and uphold the truth when it is called for. We can back down from what we know is right to try to save face or protect someone's feelings. Where in your life have you been guilty of this? Where do you need to proclaim truth in the face of a lie?

Pray:

  • That you would make Jesus Lord of your whole life.
  • That you would stand firm in the truth.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

1. Who is Jesus? I believe Jesus is God because Jesus said He is God and proved it by rising from the dead and appearing to His disciples, His brother James, 500 others at one time and Paul.
(Mark 3:21; John 8:58, 10:30-33, 14:9-11; Acts 9:1-6; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:2-3; James 1:1)
