Hello This is a Test

Thursday Devo

Scripture:

Luke 19:5-6
5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
6 Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. 7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.

Commentary:

19:5 Zacchaeus, … I must stay at your house today shows the divine necessity of Jesus’ bringing salvation to Zacchaeus’s home (vv. 9–10).
19:6 Joyfully may imply that Zacchaeus had already come to faith.

Questions:

  • Zacchaeus might have been trying to get a glimpse of Jesus, but it was Jesus that was looking for Zacchaeus. Jesus sought HIM out. The same is true for each of us. While we were sinners, still running from God, Jesus sought us out and opened our eyes to the beauty and freedom of the Gospel. Think about how humbling it is that He came after you, chose you, adopted you into His family.... That he CHOSE to take on your sin and shame and die in your place so that you might have life. He sought YOU out. What does that do for your faith and confidence in your Savior? How does it feel to know that He loves you THAT much and is 100% in your corner?

  • There are people in all of our lives that are far from God and need Jesus, just like Zacchaeus did. And He is chasing after them, just like he chased after you. Who in your life needs Jesus? Could it be that God might be wanting to seek them out using you, your friendship, and your influence?

Pray:

  • That you would remember how much God loves you and that He sought you out.
  • That you would do the same for people in your life that need Jesus.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

6. Is the Bible God’s Word? Jesus proved He is God by rising from the dead and said the Old Testament was God’s Word and gave authority to the Apostles to write the words of the New Testament, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that all the words of the Bible are God’s Word.
