Hello This is a Test

Wednesday Devo

Scripture:

Matt 10:38-39
38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. 39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.

Commentary:

10:38 take his cross (cf. 16:24). Crucifixion is a shocking metaphor for discipleship. A disciple must deny himself (die to self-will), take up his cross (embrace God’s will, no matter the cost), and follow Christ.

Questions:

  • Jesus needs to be the sole focus of our families. During ProjectONE, we asked you to examine your family's commitment to faith and family. Your family's well-being is completely found it Jesus and nothing else. Are you or your family doing anything that keeps your kids from Jesus? Are there any adjustments that need to be made in order to prove with your actions and priorities that Jesus is the most important thing in your life and family?

  • When you look at most casual Christians in America, their lives don't resemble what Matthew 10 calls for. Practically speaking, what would "taking up your cross daily" look like in your day-to-day? What kinds of things might you need to change about your thought life? Schedule? Priorities?

Pray:

That you would make Jesus first in your life and family.
That you would take up your cross daily and follow Him.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
(Matthew 7:24-27; John 14:6)
