Hello This is a Test

Friday Devo

Scripture:

Psalm 27:4
4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.

Commentary:

27:4–6 Shelter in His Sanctuary. “House of the Lord,” “temple,” “tent,” and “sacrifices” show that these verses focus on public worship; they view unhindered access to God’s presence in worship as the best of all gifts. This is the place of true delight and true safety.
27:4 David, the author of this psalm, could have called the tabernacle a “house” (Josh. 6:24; 1 Sam. 1:7; 3:15) and a temple (1 Sam. 1:9; 3:3). On dwell in the house of the Lord, see Ps. 23:6. God’s beauty is what the faithful yearn to gaze upon (i.e., to behold with admiration and affection) as they seek him in worship.
27:4 Enjoyment of fellowship with God in his presence anticipates the joy of knowing God through Christ (John 15:11; 16:24; 17:3; Rev. 22:4). Christ opens the way into the heavenly sanctuary (Heb. 10:19–22).

Questions:

  • The Lord was clearly the delight of David's life. He enjoyed God's presence. He found joy and peace there. He felt safe there. He wanted nothing more than to gaze on God's beauty. Take some time today to read through some more of the Psalms. Let the verses stir your affections for God. Pray and ask him to ignite your passion for his presence.

  • Think back to the story of Mary and Martha. We all should, like Mary, choose the best thing in life... to sit at Jesus' feet and worship him. There was nowhere else Mary wanted to be. She had a passion for His presence, much like David. As you read Psalm 27:4, how does David's passion for God compare to yours?

Pray:

That you would choose to spend time in His presence each day.
That you would develop a passion for spending time with Him.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

3. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Since “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin is death,” Jesus had to die on the cross to pay the fine for my sin so I could be right with God.
