Scripture:
Luke 17:22-25
22 Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see the day when the Son of Man returns, but you won’t see it. 23 People will tell you, ‘Look, there is the Son of Man,’ or ‘Here he is,’ but don’t go out and follow them. 24 For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so it will be on the day when the Son of Man comes. 25 But first the Son of Man must suffer terribly and be rejected by this generation.

Commentary:
17:22 One of the days probably means they will long to see a day when Jesus has already returned to the earth and is with them again, but some take it to mean they will long for the time when Jesus was with them on earth. You will not see it because he will no longer be on earth and will not yet have returned.
17:23 Believers should not follow people who claim that Jesus has come in a secret or hidden way, for he will come in a way that is dramatic and visible to all.
17:24 The coming of the kingdom, inaugurated by Christ’s return, will be as bright, unmistakable, and sudden as lightning; just as lightning lights up the sky, all will see it.
17:25 first he must suffer. The consummation of the kingdom requires that a divine event “must” first take place—that is, the obligation that Jesus must first die according to God’s plan to redeem a people for himself. this generation.

Questions:
- The Kingdom will be VISIBLE. Now, it's invisible, but one day our eyes will see it. Jesus' message is that the Kingdom of God is already active but awaits a future consummation. It's here today and it's also coming one day. When the Son of Man returns it will be seen worldwide, visible from the east to the west. There will be a global impact. When His Kingdom is established on the earth He will have total authority over all of humanity. And it will happen SUDDENLY. He will come down from HEAVEN suddenly and REIGN forever, while the antichrist will rise up from the EARTH gradually and be DESTROYED forever. These signs are given to keep Christians from being surprised by these remarkable events and to keep them from following after alleged messiahs who do not come in the dramatic, visible, world-conquering way in which Jesus himself will come. No one will have to tell you when He comes... you will know! How ready are you for Him to return? How much do you long for that day?
- It's always a good thing to think about Christ's return. He could come back at any moment. Scripture tells us that it will happen in the blink of an eye and no one knows the day or the hour. We have to make sure we are ready. How often do you think about His return? Do you feel like you are ready for it? What about people in your life you care for? What can we do to make sure we're ready?
Pray:
- That you would look forward to that day with great anticipation.
- That you would make sure you and those you love are ready!
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
1. Who is Jesus? I believe Jesus is God because Jesus said He is God and proved it by rising from the dead and appearing to His disciples, His brother James, 500 others at one time and Paul.
