Hello This is a Test

Thursday Devo

Scripture:

1 Timothy 6:17-19
17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

Commentary:

6:17–19 Charge to the Rich. The charge directly to rich believers may seem unexpected in this place. However, it provides a corrective to the wrong view of wealth seen in the false teachers. Furthermore, the downplaying of riches by stressing that they are merely for “this present age” appropriately follows the moving description of appearing before God on the final day (vv. 15–16). The call for the wealthy to use their wealth to prepare for the future either means that how they use their wealth demonstrates whether they are saved, or that they should seek for greater reward in heaven, or both.

Questions:

  • Once we begin to understand the horrors of hell, not only should we be broken by it, but we should sacrifice for that truth. As Jesus followers, if we really believe in what he taught about eternity and HIM being the ONLY way to God, we must use our time, money, resources, influence and even our own stories to help bring people into the Kingdom. How are you doing in each of those categories? Does God get your first fruits?

  • Another way to say it is, the REDEEMED will use every means necessary, whatever the cost, to REDEEM. God is calling us to use whatever means necessary to rescue, bless, serve and preach the gospel. Yesterday you made a list of people in your life, whom you love, that don't know Jesus. Let's put this into practice today. Text each name on the list and invite them to come to church with you on Easter! Research shows that a vast majority of people will accept invitations to an Easter service. It's kind of a no-brainer! Here's a sample text...

"Hey _______! I'm not sure if you have plans for Easter yet, but I'd love for you to come with me to The City Church! I really think you'll love it!"

Pray:

  • That you would use what God has given you to reach and serve the lost.
  • That you wouldn't be tempted to make excuses.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
(Matthew 7:24-27; John 14:6)
