Hello This is a Test

Wednesday Devo

Scripture:

Romans 9:1-3
With Christ as my witness, I speak with utter truthfulness. My conscience and the Holy Spirit confirm it. 2 My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grief 3 for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed—cut off from Christ!—if that would save them.

Commentary:

9:1–3 Paul suffers from great anguish because his Jewish kinsmen are unsaved (see also 10:1). Indeed, if it were possible, Paul might almost choose to be accursed (to suffer God’s punishment in hell) so that his fellow Jews would be saved (cf. Moses in Ex. 32:30–32). But he knows this would achieve nothing, for none but Christ could be any person’s substitute to bear God’s wrath.

Questions:

  • Now that we know the truth about eternity, we should be broken over it. When Paul thinks of how lost people in his life are in Romans 9, it's almost more than he can bear. It should be the same for us. We should be broken over the lostness of people we love. How often are you broken over lost people in your life that you love? Are you tempted to just put it out of your mind? If you forced yourself to think about it every day, how might it change you?

  • Like Paul, knowing that people in our lives are going to spend eternity in hell should drive us to want to sacrifice and do everything possible to reach them. We must remember that we are in their lives for a reason. If we don't reach them, who will? Spend some time thinking of people in your life that need Jesus. Allow your heart to break over the thought of them spending eternity in hell. Write their names down and look at them. Pray for them each day!

Pray:

  • That your heart would break for those who don't know Jesus.
  • That you would pray faithfully for them and look for opportunities to share the Gospel.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
(Matthew 7:24-27; John 14:6)
