Fast 2023 - Day 8
*** We invite you to join us for United City Nights (our corporate prayer time) from 6:30 - 7:30 tonight at the church. Our whole church family will be ending the fast with a time of prayer.***
Scripture Reading:
Acts 12:5 - 8
5 But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him. 6 The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. 7 Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists. 8 Then the angel told him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” And he did. “Now put on your coat and follow me,” the angel ordered.

Commentary:
We believe there is power in prayer and fasting. We also see in God's Word there is power when the church prays and fasts together. There is a place for corporate prayer and corporate fasting. In this story, the church was praying for Peter as he had been imprisoned. God powerfully answered their prayers and sent an angel to free Peter.
If you read on to verses 12 - 17, we see the church was shocked to see Peter show up at their door. They weren't sure it was him. Answers like this in the Bible should encourage us to continue to move forward with our fast and join each other in prayer. Prayers, when done with others, can increase the power of that prayer.
It is easy to get weary when we are fasting. We are not in our typical pattern. But we realize this can help us know God more and get more clarity when hearing from him. This kind of prayer can bring breakthroughs in people's lives. It can also push back attacks from the enemy.
Be encouraged that God will move as we pray according to His will. We believe the ProjectONE vision is where God is directing us, and we will pray for that tonight. Come to City Nights (our corporate prayer gathering) at the church from 6:30 - 7:30 as we all join together to bring closure to our week of prayer and fasting.

Questions For Reflection:
- Do you believe God can move in big ways through prayer?
- How can we be a part of corporate prayer and fasting to see God do big things this year?
Prayer:
God, we see how the church banded together in your Word to pray that you would move in powerful ways. We want to see you move in our day and in our time. Would you help us accomplish our ProjectONE Vision and continue to be a city on a hill that is shining your light for all to see? God, show me my part as we move forward. Continue to use me in prayer.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
