Fast 2023 - Day 7

Scripture:

Luke 11:9-10
9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Commentary:

We hope that this week of fasting has resulted in you connecting with God in a deeper way! In a practical sense, fasting without added prayer and spiritual disciplines is just dieting. We need to enhance our relationship with God by adding intentional behaviors that help us encounter God spiritually.

Jesus taught the disciples to be intentional about pursuing God. We are to ask, to seek, and to knock. Here are some ways to pursue God in prayer this week.

We would like you to embrace the ACTS model of prayer:

  • First, take some time for adoration. Start a Spotify, Pandora, or Apple music worship list and worship with it, giving adoration to God.

  • Next comes thanksgiving. Thank God for the many blessings you have. Thank him for friendships, for family. Thank him for guidance and protection. Thank him for salvation and all Jesus did for us. There is so much to be thankful for. As you read your Bible and hear teaching and preaching, you become aware of many things to be thankful for.

  • Next is confession. This is an essential part of our prayer life. Read through Psalm 139 or Galatians 5 and take a moment to evaluate any sin you may have committed and need to confess.

  • Finally comes supplication. Bring your challenges in life to God and give them to him in prayer. This form of prayer would be called a petition.  You are petitioning God for help. Petition God for protection for your family. Prayer fuels our capacity to fight the enemy in our lives and those around us. Beyond that, let your heart begin to pray for others. Who in your circles of influence need prayer? It may even be that person that is irritating to you. God may want you to ask for encouragement and His love to overwhelm their hearts.

Please take time and be intentional this week. The more you do these things, the easier it will be for prayer to become a regular pattern in your daily life.

Questions For Reflection:

  1. Am I being intentional about pursuing God this week?
  2. How can I instill basic practices of prayer in my day-to-day life?

Prayer:

Thank you, God, for your promises.  You promise in your word that if I seek, I will find.  If I ask, it will be given.  If I knock, the door will be opened.  I want my prayer life to be constantly asking, seeking, and knocking.  Help me come to You prayer to change my family's future and the future of those you put around me.  Show me how to be a faithful influence for the kingdom of God through my prayer life.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
(Matthew 7:24-27; John 14:6)
