Friday Devo
Scripture Reading:
Isaiah 26:8-9
8 Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws;
our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.
9 In the night I search for you;
in the morning I earnestly seek you.
For only when you come to judge the earth
will people learn what is right.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:
26:8–9 you … you … you. God himself is the wholehearted desire of his people. the inhabitants of the world. Desire for God inspires a longing that all would recognize him. These verses are transitional to vv. 10–11.
Study Questions:
- The point of Jesus' narrative in Luke 12 is that our eyes should be on HIM, not our stuff. We need to be focused on building HIS Kingdom, not ours. If we are going to be Jesus followers, he HAS to be LORD of our lives, not just our Savior. This means daily surrender and submission to his will and his ways. Is he first in your life? If someone asked you to prove it, could you?
- When you make something PRIMARY that was designed to be SECONDARY, you will always feel EMPTY. C.S. Lewis said it this way: "When we put first things first, God multiplies the second things. When we put second things first, we lose not only the first things, we also lose the second things." We must take our eyes off our stuff. If we, instead, turn our eyes upon Jesus and look full into his wonderful face, the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace. How have you found these things to be true in your own life and experiences? What do you need to do in order to make sure Jesus is your primary focus?
Pray:
- That you would make Jesus Lord of your life.
- That Jesus would be your primary focus.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
1. Who is Jesus? I believe Jesus is God because Jesus said He is God and proved it by rising from the dead and appearing to His disciples, His brother James, 500 others at one time and Paul.
