Scripture Reading:
1 John 3:16-19
16 We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? 18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. 19 Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:
3:16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us. Jesus’ path to the cross marks the selfless, self-giving way of life to which his followers are called.
Study Questions:
- Jesus was constantly investing in people. Every relationship in his life was intentional and on purpose. He poured into so many people around him, including the 12. But he went even deeper wither Peter, James and John. While we need to be mentored by someone else, we also need to be doing the same for others. Disciples make disciples. In our walk with the Lord, we all need certain kinds of relationships... we all need fathers, we all need brothers, we all need sons. In other words, we need to mentored, we need peers that we do life with, and we need someone behind us in the journey that we can be intentional with. Do you have relationships in your life like this? Are you pouring into someone else?
- We all need brothers... this happens best in a small group of believers. We were created to follow Jesus with other people. We are meant to share life with others, to be in a group of people where we are fully known and fully loved. Do you have a group like this that you meet with regularly for prayer and Bible study? Do you have friends or family that you could ask to be in a City Group with you? If not, go to the City Group tab today and find a group that you can join!
Pray:
- That you would be intentional about pouring into others.
- That you would have the courage to be in a small group, meeting with others on a regular basis.
