Scripture Reading:
1 Timothy 6:11-14
11 But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. 13 And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:
6:11–12 The reference to Timothy as a man of God affirms his authority and stands in contrast with the false teachers, who are not men of God. “Man of God” is used often in the OT of a prophet (e.g., Deut. 33:1; 1 Sam. 9:6; Ps. 90:1). The call to fight the good fight of the faith and to take hold of the eternal life involves both fleeing from sin and vigorously pursuing virtue.
6:13–14 Another solemn charge. Jesus’ good confession before Pontius Pilate (see, e.g., Matt. 27:11; John 18:37) is the example for the believer’s “good confession” (1 Tim. 6:12, 14).

Study Questions:
- The next thing we learned from our Christmas Eve service is that Jesus is YOUR King. He is your King whether you want him to be or not. You really don't have a choice! We no very little about kingdoms and monarchies. When you are the subject of the king, you don't have a lot of choices. The only acceptable choice is submission and obedience. We have developed a version of Christianity where we mentally agree with some truths, show up to church occasionally, but never really give up the throne of our lives to the King. So many of us are deceiving ourselves. Can you truly say you have submitted fully to the King?
- We all have a king in our lives. There is something we bow down to. Something is king! What is king of your life? To what do you give the most reverence and thought? To what do you submit? Here are some questions to help you get to the truth... What drives your decisions? With whom do your loyalties lie? How do you make decisions? Spend your time and money?
Pray:
- That you would submit your life to the King.
- That you wouldn't withhold any part of your life from Him.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
7. How can I trust that the Bible is still God’s Word today? I trust the Bible is still God’s Word today because Jesus rose from the dead proving He was God and said His words would never pass away. Through the Holy Spirit, God inspired the writing of the Scripture, determined the canon of Scripture and protected the copying of Scripture so that we might know Him and worship Him to this day.
