Hello This is a Test

Scripture Reading:

Isaiah 9:6-7
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:

Prince of Peace. He is the ruler whose reign will bring about peace because the nations will rely on his just decisions in their disputes (cf. Isa. 2:4; 11:6–9; 42:4; 49:7; 52:15). This kind of king contrasts with even the best of the Davidic line that Judah has experienced so far, because these titles show that this king will be divine. Thus this cannot refer to, say, Hezekiah (whose father Ahaz was king at the time), who for all his piety was nevertheless flawed (cf. 39:5–8) and only human.

Study Questions:

  • Finally, Jesus is the Advent of PEACE. He will be called, "Prince of Peace." He will be a ruler whose reign will bring about eternal peace. In the beginning, before the fall of man, there was peace on the earth. There was order and harmony. But when sin entered the picture, the peace was broken. Now there is war and opposition with God, with ourselves, with others. Our world has become a war zone, and we look for peace in all the wrong places. But for Christians who understand the gospel, peace becomes our heritage and hope. Jesus alone brings peace. Where do you look for peace? In your money? Your own striving to solve the problems in your life? In a relationship? In finding your own identity? What is the end result of searching for peace in these areas?

  • Peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit. As a Christian grows and matures and becomes more and more like Jesus through spending time in prayer and in the study of the Word, the Holy Spirit will add peace to our lives. This isn't just ordinary peace; it's supernatural. It's peace that makes no sense. It means being able to have a true inner peace even when the world around us is on fire. The writer of Hebrews says that, since we are his children, we can come boldly to his throne in prayer. In return, God promises us PEACE. Do you have this kind of peace in your life? If not, have you asked him for it lately?

Pray:

  • That you would only look for peace in Jesus.
  • That you would ask God for peace when your world is in chaos.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

6. Is the Bible God’s Word? Jesus proved He is God by rising from the dead and said the Old Testament was God’s Word and gave authority to the Apostles to write the words of the New Testament, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that all the words of the Bible are God’s Word.
(Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:27, 44; John 14:25-26, 15:27, 16:12-13, 17:20; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 3:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21)
