Hello This is a Test

Scripture Reading:

Isaiah 9:6
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father...

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:

Mighty God. A title of the Lord himself (10:20–21; Deut. 10:17; Neh. 9:32; Jer. 32:18). Everlasting Father. A “father” here is a benevolent protector (cf. Isa. 22:21; Job 29:16), which is the task of the ideal king and is also the way God himself cares for his people (cf. Isa. 63:16; 64:8; Ps. 103:13). (That is, this is not using the Trinitarian title “Father” for the Messiah; rather, it is portraying him as a king.)

Study Questions:

  •  Jesus is the Advent of PROTECTION. He will be called "Everlasting Father." He is our benevolent protector. Throughout Scripture, God is a Father that loves his kids and wants what is best for them. Like spoiled children, we throw a fit when we don't get our way and even question the goodness of God. Have you ever found yourself there? How can we remind ourselves, even when we go through difficult times, that God's way is always best and that his plans for you are perfect?

  • One sign of a mature believer is that, through the most difficult seasons of life, they learn to develop an "even if" kind of faith. Their faith in God grows to the point that they surrender to his will for them, no matter what... even if they don't get what they want, even if their prayers aren't answered the way they expect. They have BOTH tremendous faith that God can do the impossible AND, at the same time, aren't derailed if God takes it a different way. Do you think you've developed an "even if" faith? Do you ever find yourself angry at God or questioning if he cares? Ask God to grow your level of faith in him until you can truly say that you trust him, no matter what.

Pray:

  • That you would remember that God ALWAYS wants what is best for you.
  • That you would develop an "even if" faith.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

6. Is the Bible God’s Word? Jesus proved He is God by rising from the dead and said the Old Testament was God’s Word and gave authority to the Apostles to write the words of the New Testament, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that all the words of the Bible are God’s Word.
(Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:27, 44; John 14:25-26, 15:27, 16:12-13, 17:20; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 3:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21)
