Hello This is a Test

Scripture Reading:

Romans 1:21-22, 25
21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:

1:21 The root sin is the failure to value God above all things, so that he is not honored and praised as he should be. Human beings are foolish, not in the sense that they are intellectually deficient but in their rejection of God’s lordship over their lives. They knew God not in a saving sense, but they knew of his existence and his attributes.
1:22 Even brilliant people who do not honor God miss the whole purpose of life and are therefore fools (cf. Prov. 1:7, 22; 10:1; 12:15; 14:7; 17:25; 20:3).
1:25 exchanged the truth about God for a lie. Paul implies that all other religions are based on false ideas about the one true God; they are not just “different paths to one God,” as some claim.

Study Questions:

  • In Luke 11:35, Jesus gives a stern warning. He says to make sure that the "light" in you isn't actually darkness. Jesus knows that the people would deny they were blind, so he tells them to "BEWARE!" Physically blind people may not know what seeing is like, but they at least know they're blind. Spiritually blind people, however, don't even know they're blind! Sometimes they might even believe the lie that they're the only ones that can see. What they think is truth is, in fact, error. What a scary place to be! Think about people in your life that think they are enlightened, maybe even think they are Christians, but you can tell they are actually living in darkness. What are the differences between the fruit of their life and the fruit of someone's life that is a sold-out follower of Jesus?

  • If the verses from Romans 1 above don't sound like the world we live in today, I'm not sure what does! Everything is backwards. Absolute truth has been abandoned for shifting public perception. There is no ultimate truth, only what each individual deems is true for them. But TRUE woke-ism is having your eyes opened to the Truth of the Gospel. As Jesus said in Luke 11, his light is obvious. The evidence is there in front of everyone. And each person will be judged on their answer one question; "Will you receive his light or not?" Is there someone in your life who has traded the truth of God for a lie? Anyone living in darkness but think they're enlightened? Spend some extra time today praying for those people, that their eyes would be opened to the Light.

Pray:

  • That you would never be tempted to trade the truth for a lie.
  • That you would be faithful to pray for those around you in darkness.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

3. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Since “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin is death,” Jesus had to die on the cross to pay the fine for my sin so I could be right with God.
