Hello This is a Test

Scripture Reading:

Romans 3:23-24
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:

3:23 No one can stake a claim to this righteousness based on his or her own obedience, for all people have sinned and fall short of what God demands (see 1:21).
3:24 Therefore, all are justified (declared not guilty but righteous by the divine Judge) only by God’s grace (unmerited favor). The word redemption reaches back to the OT exodus and the blood of the Passover lamb (see Exodus 12–15), by which the Lord liberated Israel from Egypt; the exodus likewise points forward to the greater redemption Jesus won for his people through his blood by forgiving them their sins through his death on the cross (cf. Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14).

Study Questions:

  • We have ALL sinned. We all fall short of God's standard of perfection. What is sin? Sin is anything we think, say, do or DON'T do that breaks God's Law. Many times we think of sin merely as some big, terrible act or some giant mistake. But really, even the smallest most fleeting thought can be sin. Or even when we don't obey something we know God is asking us to do. Even DELAYED obedience is disobedience, as we see from the life of Jonah. Is there something you know that God is leading you to do but you haven't done it yet? What is holding you back from being obedient?

  • Even though we fall miserably short of God's standard, and have no way to be made right with God on our own, he freely and graciously makes us right through Jesus. We have been freed from the penalty of our sins, which is death. Grace - something we don't deserve and couldn't possibly earn. Jesus did that for you! Being reminded of this should make us live with gratitude and humility before God. Take some extra time today to write out a few things that you are grateful for. Write out a prayer of gratitude to God!

Pray:

  • That you would be instantly obedient when God leads you to do something.
  • That you would live a life of humility and gratitude.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

3. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Since “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin is death,” Jesus had to die on the cross to pay the fine for my sin so I could be right with God.
