Scripture Reading:
Luke 6:30-31
30 Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. 31 Do to others as you would like them to do to you.

Commentary from the ESV Study Bible:
6:30 Give to everyone who begs from you. Jesus again stresses that believers must be “generous to a fault,” even when someone takes away your goods. The standards by which Jesus’ disciples are to live are higher than the standards of the world. Christians should help those who are truly needy (and therefore forced to beg), but they are not required to give foolishly (cf. 7:6) or to a lazy person who is not in need (2 Thess. 3:10), or where giving would bring harm rather than benefit.
6:31 The “Golden Rule” is to be practiced with respect to both friends and enemies alike. This verse summarizes the teaching of the Law and the Prophets. The way in which one wants to be treated should determine the way that one treats others. This should come naturally for believers who love God with all their heart and soul and mind, and who love their neighbor as themselves (22:37–40).

Study Questions:
- The third point from Sunday's message was, "Real love is rooted in the provision of God." This means we come to the realization that it is God who provides all the things we need. Jesus tells us we are to give to anyone who asks. Our lives are to be marked by radical generosity. This is hard to do when we think everything we have is ours. But when we realize it's all God's anyway, we are more likely to share with those who are in need. We are merely stewards. What is your attitude towards your own money and stuff? Are you stingy with what God has blessed you with? What are some ways we can turn up the generosity in our lives?
- Many Christians miss the point with the whole money thing. Even IF we give to support the ministries of our church or give to someone in need, it's usually given out of the leftovers. This is where the Kingdom Principle of FIRST FRUITS comes in. When we give to God FIRST, it says a lot about our hearts. It means we are literally prioritizing our finances around HIM instead of our stuff. It requires a great deal of faith and trust in God to give like this. On the flip side, only giving IF there is some left at the end of the month requires NO faith. Which way do you and your family prioritize giving? First fruits or leftovers? How do we move towards sacrificial giving, and what kinds of spiritual rewards do you think might accompany this lifestyle? What might it do to your relationship with God?
Pray:
- That we would remember that we are merely stewards of what God has given us.
- That we would be generous, prioritizing our finances around God.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
