Hello This is a Test

Scripture:

Romans 8
10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

Commentary:

8:10 The previous verse speaks of the Spirit’s indwelling, but here Paul describes Christ’s dwelling in Christians. This does not mean that there is no difference between Christ and the Spirit (which is the ancient heresy of modalism), but it does suggest that Christ and the Spirit are both fully God, and work cooperatively. Since the bodies of Christians are not yet redeemed, they still die, even though they are freed from the condemnation of sin. Yet the presence of the Spirit within believers testifies to the new life they enjoy because of the righteousness of Christ that is now theirs.

Questions:

  • Because He rose, God brings LIFE from DEATH. When God spoke into the darkness of that tomb and said, "Let there be light"… when that stone rolled away and Jesus walked out, everything changed! It marked the end of both sin and DEATH. Even though we still get sick and experience pain, we look forward to the day when all of that goes away for good... when He returns to make all things right. Can God heal us and end our pain? Of course He can! But does He always? No. How do we believe for God to heal and answer prayer while, at the same time, trust Him when He doesn't?

  • Sometimes ultimate healing comes when we are with Him in heaven, after sin and death are defeated once and for all. Which is the greater miracle? The temporary miracle or the eternal one? How does this affect your perspective on suffering?

Prayer Topics:

  • That you would learn to trust even when the answer isn't what you want it to be.
  • That we would place our ultimate hope in the greater miracle, while still trusting Him for one now.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

7. How can I trust that the Bible is still God’s Word today? I trust the Bible is still God’s Word today because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He was God and said His words would never pass away. Through the Holy Spirit, God inspired the writing of the Scripture, determined the canon of Scripture and protected the copying of Scripture so that we might know Him and worship Him to this day.
