Scripture:
Romans 5
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Commentary:
5:3–4 The people of God rejoice not only in future glory but in present trials and sufferings, not because trials are pleasant but because they produce a step-by-step transformation that makes believers more like Christ.
5:5 Followers of Christ have no reason to fear humiliation on the judgment day, for they now belong to God. Indeed, they know that they have received God’s love because the Holy Spirit poured his love into their hearts at conversion.

Questions:
- The big idea from Sunday was to EMBRACE the PAIN. This definitely doesn't sound encouraging, but it's the only way we grow in our relationship with the Lord. Embracing it means more than just admitting we're in pain. But like Paul says in Romans 5, we are to "GLORY in our sufferings." Everything you think will break you, He can and will use to grow you. What is God using right now to grow you? How has He proven Himself to you in the past when He used brokenness and pain to bring you closer to Him, mature you or teach you something?
- What has God been speaking to you this week? What do you need to do or change?
Prayer Topics:
- That God would help you embrace the pain of suffering.
- That your faith would grow through difficult seasons.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
