Hello This is a Test

Thursday Devo

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 3
11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.
12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.

Commentary:

3:12 gold, silver, precious stones. Materials used in the construction of Solomon’s temple (1 Chron. 29:2), and here an image for what will survive the judgment, in contrast to wood, hay, and straw. Work that Christians do in Christlike faith and obedience (1 Cor. 3:10–11) will survive and be rewarded; work done in the power of the “flesh” (v. 1) or in disobedience to Scripture (4:6) will not.

Questions:

  • Judgement is real, but the good news for believers, true followers of Jesus, is that we won't face judgement. Yes, we'll stand before Jesus to give an account of our lives, but it will be for the purpose of reward, not condemnation. We'll stand before the Bema seat of Christ to determine the measure of the reward that we will receive in the age to come. When you look at your life and deeds, what will be your reward? What will be burned up? How can you refocus yourself to live for things that have eternal Kingdom value?

So then, while the ungodly should AGONIZE over this day, we can look forward with ANTICIPATION. The true believers will receive and ETERNAL CROWN, while the others will receive ETERNAL CONDEMNATION. How much are you looking forward to this day? How can we live our lives focused more on the Day of the Lord and not just the worries of today? What would the results be if we did?

Prayer Topics:

  • That your life would be lived for eternity.
  • That you would look forward to the day He returns.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

2. Are there sources outside the Bible that confirm the Biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Many Roman and Jewish historians have confirmed that the apostles died as martyrs for preaching that they saw Jesus risen from the grave. No one dies for something they know to be a lie.
