Hello This is a Test

Wednesday Devo

Scripture:

2 Peter 2
9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment. 10 He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority

Commentary:

2:9–10a Having stated his minor premises, Peter moves now to his major premise (see note on vv. 4–10a): “If” vv. 4–8 are true, then how much more true are vv. 9–10a. God indeed knows how to rescue the godly from trials. In the case of Peter’s audience, this would have evoked hope of divine deliverance from the false teachers and their influence. God also will certainly keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment. He will punish them in a partial, preliminary way before the final day of judgment (cf. Luke 16:23–24; Heb. 9:27). This applies especially to those who engage in defiling passion and who despise authority—probably a reference to false teachers (cf. 2 Pet. 2:12, 18; 3:3; Jude 8, 16, 18).

Questions:

  • Verse 9 tells us that God will always deliver His people from their trials, but He won't prevent them from experiencing the trials. Some people have a hard time reconciling this thought with a good and loving Heavenly Father. Trusting God means believing that everything we go through is for our ultimate good and His ultimate glory. Do you trust this truth in your own life? Do your trials ever make you question God?

  • Jesus promised that we would have troubles in this life. The promise Peter is making is that God will never allow His people to be overwhelmed by the trial.  Can you trust Him IN the trial? How has God grown you in this area in the past? How has He used past trials for your good and His glory?

Pray:

  • That your level of trust in God would grow.
  • That He would use your trials for your good and His glory.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

4. Can a person be good enough to go to heaven? No. Because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He is God, I believe a person is saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
