Hello This is a Test

Friday Devo

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 12
18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

Commentary:

12:18 God arranged. The Corinthians’ thinking will be corrected when they consider God’s sovereignty in assigning gifts (cf. also vv. 3, 11, 28).
12:20 many parts, yet one body. One of the key themes in these chapters is unity in the midst of diversity.

Questions:

  • The big idea from Sunday was, "Don't be a BOOTY without a BODY!" Scripture compares the church to a physical body, where each person is a member of that body, each with it's own special purpose and function. Each member of that body is critical and needed by all the others! We need you, and you need us! Do you feel as though you've made yourself an integral part of the local body of believers? Do you fully realize that you need them and they need you?

  • The challenge Sunday was to COME HOME. Find a good, Bible teaching church (preferably one that teaches exegetically, verse by verse in context), with a plurality of leadership that you trust, and give yourself to it. Plant yourself there; put down roots. What has God been speaking to you through this study? How can you go further, plug in more, and increase your commitment to the body? What is your next step?

Pray:

  • That God would show you how to plug into the body.
  • That your soul would crave Biblical community.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

6. Is the Bible God’s Word? Jesus proved He is God by rising from the dead and said the Old Testament was God’s Word and gave authority to the Apostles to write the words of the New Testament, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that all the words of the Bible are God’s Word.
