Hello This is a Test

Monday Devo

Scripture:

1 Peter 3
8 Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.

Commentary:

3:8–9 Finally, all of you provides a transition from the preceding specific instructions to a list of godly virtues that all believers are called to exemplify at all times. Those who bless others will receive a blessing from God, which Peter explains in the following verses.

Questions:

  • In 1 Peter 3:8, Peter instructs the church to be of ONE MIND. This means to be like-minded. This doesn't mean we all agree with each other. Rather, it means we are to have the mind of Christ. We are to sacrifice what we think and what we want for what Scripture says. But to have the mind of Christ and to be obedient to Scripture, we have to know what it says! How disciplined are you in the study of the Word? Do you feel like you're doing enough to ensure you develop a solid grasp on what the Bible says?

  • "Truth is not sacrificed on the altar of harmony, but personal feelings belong on that altar." - Scot McKnight. We are naturally selfish beings. That is our default. But we are to place our own feelings and our own "truth" on the altar and embrace THE truth of God's Word. How many causes, stances, platforms, opinions etc do you hold that aren't in line with Scripture? How often are you laying down what YOU THINK is best in favor of what HE SAYS is best?

Pray:

  • That God's Word would be your truth.
  • That you would lay down your own thoughts and feelings for His.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

7. How can I trust that the Bible is still God’s Word today? I trust the Bible is still God’s Word today because Jesus rose from the dead, proving He was God and said His words would never pass away. Through the Holy Spirit, God inspired the writing of the Scripture, determined the canon of Scripture and protected the copying of Scripture so that we might know Him and worship Him to this day.
(Matthew 24:35; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21; Revelation 22:18-19)
