Hello This is a Test

Tuesday Devo

Scripture:

Matthew 10:38-39
38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. 39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.

Commentary:

10:38 take his cross (cf. 16:24). Crucifixion is a shocking metaphor for discipleship. A disciple must deny himself (die to self-will), take up his cross (embrace God’s will, no matter the cost), and follow Christ.

Questions:

  • Jesus is better! He's better than any other competing salvation narrative, better than looking to success, fitness, sex, politics or anything else that we get all wrapped up in. Is Jesus first in your life? When was the last time you just sat back and were blown away by Jesus and his love for you and all the ways he's blessed you?  When was the last time you felt genuine gratitude for all he's done?

  • It's easy for us to let our schedules and anxieties dictate our priorities. It takes intentional work to keep God on the throne of our lives and to build them around him and his ways. Can it be said of you that you take up your cross and follow Jesus daily? What would it look like for you to live this way?

Pray:

  • That you would live a life of gratitude.
  • That you would learn to take up your cross and follow Jesus.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

3. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Since “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin is death,” Jesus had to die on the cross to pay the fine for my sin so I could be right with God.
