Scripture:
Psalm 33
10 The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations
and thwarts all their schemes.
11 But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever;
his intentions can never be shaken.
12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord,
whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
13 The Lord looks down from heaven
and sees the whole human race.
14 From his throne he observes
all who live on the earth.
15 He made their hearts,
so he understands everything they do.

Commentary:
33:10–12 Reason 2: God’s Will Prevails. The God who made the world also rules it according to his own purposes. In the creation account God’s purposes always prevail; so it is after the creation: there is no power able to oppose God successfully, because all these powers derive their being and power from God. In view of such majesty, v. 12 stands out: God deserves the love of all mankind, and rules them, and yet there is one particular people whom he has chosen as his heritage, namely, Israel (see note on 28:6–9). It is clear from the call of Abram (Gen. 12:1–3) that Israel was called to be God’s means by which the whole world would come to know him.

Questions:
- David says we should praise God for the SOVEREIGNTY of His WILL. The "sovereign will of God" refers to God's predetermined plan and purpose for all of creation, which He has decided and will bring about through His own authority and power. No matter how volatile the world around you feels, God is in control. It has already been decided, and it's all heading in one singular direction... and that's when Jesus splits the skies on a white horse! How difficult is it to keep your eyes off the chaos and fixed on His return?
- Some Christians get too swallowed up in partisan politics and are forgetting to whom they belong and what has been promised to them. David is reminding us that no ruler on earth has power that God doesn't let them have. They are powerless to stop His sovereign plan. So our job as believers is to trust Him and CHILL OUT! How can you increase your level of trust in God's sovereign plan? How can you keep yourself from getting sucked into the hate-filled noise of social media?
Pray:
- That God would fix your eyes on Jesus' return.
- That you would trust His plan.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
2. Are there sources outside the Bible that confirm the Biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Many Roman and Jewish historians have confirmed that the apostles died as martyrs for preaching that they saw Jesus risen from the grave. No one dies for something they know to be a lie.
