Scripture:
Psalm 33
1 Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord;
it is fitting for the pure to praise him.
2 Praise the Lord with melodies on the lyre;
make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.
3 Sing a new song of praise to him;
play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.

Commentary:
33:1–3 Call to Sing Praise. The opening words of the psalm, shout for joy and righteous, echo 32:11, which may be why this psalm is placed here. Here, the righteous and the upright are the people of God, who have received his covenant and his steadfast love. The stringed instruments named here accompany this exuberant song of praise. New song (cf. 40:3; 96:1; 98:1; 144:9; 149:1; Isa. 42:10; Rev. 5:9; 14:3) need not imply a freshly composed song; instead it may mean singing this song as a response to a fresh experience of God’s grace.

Questions:
- In Psalm 33, David is commanding us to "sing for JOY to the Lord. Singing for joy means to express great happiness and delight through singing. When it comes to your worship of God, whether corporately or privately, what is your level of joy? Do you let your circumstances drown out your joy?
- Many times we can let our own mood, attitude or circumstances keep us from singing with joy. But we can ALWAYS find an excuse for joy. There is power when you can, despite your circumstances, make a decision to glorify a God that you trust no matter what you're going through or how you feel or how dark your valley is. Reflect on this quote from Skip Heitzig: "Our trouble is that we write our sorrows in the marble and our mercies in the sand." Spend some time letting God remind you of his mercies in your life. Write them down and thank God for all He's done!
Pray:
- That you wouldn't let your circumstances kill your joy for the Lord.
- That you would always remember his mercies, despite your circumstances.

Try to commit to memory!
2. Are there sources outside the Bible that confirm the Biblical account of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead? Many Roman and Jewish historians have confirmed that the apostles died as martyrs for preaching that they saw Jesus risen from the grave. No one dies for something they know to be a lie.
