Scripture:
Psalm 23
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Commentary:
23:3 The restoration, refreshment, or revival of the soul (or life) indicates the returning of life or vitality (cf. 19:7; Ruth 4:15; Prov. 25:13; Lam. 1:19). The paths in which God leads his faithful are the basic moral direction of their lives, toward righteousness (seen here as a blessing, not a burden). for his name’s sake. That is, in order to preserve his reputation for being true to his revealed character (cf. 1 Kings 8:41; Ps. 25:11; 31:3).

Questions:
- In verse 3, David makes reference to the Shepherd leading the sheep onto the Shepherd's PATH of righteousness. If you are His sheep, you have a personal guide on this path of life, so all you have to do is follow Him! He's there to guide you through every twist and turn. People often get concerned about knowing what God's will is for their life, which usually is referring to a school, job, potential spouse, etc. But God's will is so much more than that! In Matthew 6, Jesus says not to worry about life's decisions. Instead, seek Him FIRST and all those other details will take care of themselves. Just follow the Shepherd on his righteous and obedient path and you will make good decisions! Is there a decision in your life you need to be praying about right now? Do you feel like you've been walking HIS path in your life recently?
- Why should you walk this path of righteousness? Is it so you get to heaven? NO! It's for the sake of His name! To bring honor and glory to God. Your holy life will be a testimony to the world of a faithful God. According to the Westminster Shorter Catechism, the "chief end of man" is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. THIS is the Shepherds will for the sheep. Who's name and fame are you living for?
Pray:
- That God would lead you into His path of righteousness.
- That you would live for HIS glory, not your own.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
1. Who is Jesus? I believe Jesus is God because Jesus said He is God and proved it by rising from the dead and appearing to His disciples, His brother James, 500 others at one time, and Paul.
