Hello This is a Test

Monday Devo

Scripture:

Psalm 96
1 Sing a new song to the Lord!
Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!
2 Sing to the Lord; praise his name.
Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.
3 Publish his glorious deeds among the nations.
Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.

Commentary:

96:1–6 Sing to the Lord All the Earth, for He Is Great! The psalm begins by calling the inhabitants of all the earth to sing to the Lord. The activities (sing to the Lord, bless his name, tell of his salvation; cf. praised and feared) all describe the privilege of Israelite worship in God’s sanctuary; here the Gentiles are invited to join in (see also vv. 8–9).
96:1 new song. See note on 33:1–3.
96:1 See note on 68:26.
96:3 The declaration to the nations anticipates the spread of the gospel (Luke 24:47; Acts 1:8; see note on Ps. 22:27).

Questions:

  • Worship is one of those things that's easy to do when things are going well in our life, but can be more difficult when we are struggling or suffering in some way. We can also tend to make it all about ourselves and our preferences. When it comes time to worship corporately, how concerned are you with whether or not you like the songs, or distracted by sound or lights or people around you? How can you know that you are truly focused on the right thing?

  • The book of Psalms is packed full of worship and songs to the Lord. Psalm 96 says to sing a NEW song to the Lord in order to tell everyone about how amazing He is. Worship shouts GOD'S GREATNESS. It's very easy to fall into routine when we worship, or to kind of check out and just mindlessly repeat lyrics to a song. But singing a NEW song implies a freshness to our worship. Reflect on this quote from Charles Spurgeon: “A new song, always new; keep up the freshness of your praise. Do not drivel down into dull routine…. We have new mercies to celebrate, therefore we must have new songs.” What has God done RECENTLY in your life that you need to give him praise for?

Pray:

  • That your heart would be focused in worship.
  • That your worship would be all about HIM and not you.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

6. Is the Bible God’s Word? Jesus proved He is God by rising from the dead and said the Old Testament was God’s Word and gave authority to the Apostles to write the words of the New Testament, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so that all the words of the Bible are God’s Word.
(Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:27, 44; John 14:25-26, 15:27, 16:12-13, 17:20; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 3:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:16-21)
