Hello This is a Test

Tuesday Devo

Scripture:

1 Peter 1
10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you. 11 They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward.
12 They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you.

Commentary:

1:10–11 Even though the OT prophets did not see clearly when their prophecies would be realized, they did foretell that Christ would suffer and then be glorified. See Overview of the Bible. The Spirit of Christ is the Holy Spirit, who was speaking through the prophets.
1:12 Christians have received astounding blessings, for the OT prophets were serving not themselves but you, that is, NT believers, and angels long to understand fully what has been accomplished. Christians have heard this good news in the gospel proclaimed to them.

Questions:

  • Although the prophets had a small glimpse into the Messiah's coming, they wondered WHEN and HOW He would come. All they knew was that their messages about Him weren't for them, but for US, as seen in verse 12. In other words, you weren't an afterthought! The messages the prophets passed along thousands of years ago was to make sure YOU knew and understood God's gracious plan of redemption. They were pointing us all to Jesus. How overwhelmed are you by the love and mercy that God has shown to you? How often is your heart grateful to Him for calling you and revealing Himself to you?

  • The prophets could not quite see the full picture of how the Messiah could suffer, die, and also enjoy a long life. Like seeing mountain ranges in the distance, they couldn't quite discern the depth and distance. Clayton talked about the two mountains of the Messiah's ministry. First was the Suffering Servant, and then came the Reigning King. It was suffering, then glory. And the same is true for His followers. Though we suffer now, there is glory coming when He returns. Just like Jesus, the crown of thorns comes before the crown of glory. How can you learn to look forward with anticipation to the glory that is to come when you are in the midst of suffering? How might this change your perspective?

Pray:

  • That your heart would be grateful today.
  • That you would learn to look forward with hope to the coming glory.

This Week's City 7:

Try to commit to memory!

1. Who is Jesus? I believe Jesus is God because Jesus said He is God and proved it by rising from the dead and appearing to His disciples, His brother James, 500 others at one time, and Paul.
