Scripture:
Matthew 5
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Commentary:
5:14 light of the world. Jesus’ disciples have the kingdom life within them as a living testimony to those in the world who do not yet have the light.
5:15 The typical lamp in a Jewish home was fairly small and was placed on a stand to give maximum illumination.
5:16 The world will see the light of the kingdom through the good works done by Jesus’ disciples (and believers today), with the result that the Father who is in heaven will be glorified.

Questions:
- One of the main takeaways from Sunday was that salvation is OWNED by FAITH and is SHOWN by DEEDS. This is something that so many of us get wrong. Good deeds alone can't save anyone, but they are evidence of a changed life. Another way to say it is that good works are the EVIDENCE of our salvation, not the BASIS of it. FAITH is the FOUNDATION, good works are the DEMONSTRATION of a changed heart. What are the dangers of getting this way of thinking backwards? Have you ever been guilty of thinking your good works put you in better standing with God?
- The bottom line is, if you have made Jesus Lord of your life, the fruit of your life will prove it. What fruit is your life producing? Would someone be able to tell you're a Christian if you didn't tell them?
Pray:
- That they would know we belong to Jesus by our fruit.
- That our obedience would prove we love Him.
This Week's City 7:
Try to commit to memory!
5. Why do I follow Jesus? I follow Jesus because Jesus rose from the dead proving that He is the way, the truth and the life.
